21st Amendment Brewery “Back in Black”

Tailgating on last week’s search for maltier beers, I am here to bring you another malty craft brew. Rather than barking up the typical styles that most of us know are generally filled with malty goodness, I chose a nice hoppy IPA. Okay, its a Black IPA! This style of IPA has been gaining ground as a beer style over the past decade. It is hopped generously like an American IPA, but has distinct roasty malt characteristics. You may also see this labeled as an India Brown Ale. At first glance you eyes may identify this dark brew as a porter or stout. Okay enough with the banter, on to the brew!
21st Amendment Brewery’sBack in Black” Black IPA pours pitch black, with a two finger thick long lasting khaki head. Citrus hops and roastines dominate the nose, but are accompanied with smells of caramelized sugar, cocoa powder and mild coffee. The taste has an incredible balance of malt and hops. There are great flavors of roasted malt, piney hops and dark bitter chocolate. The 6.8% ABV is noticeable but not overpowering. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. The finish is slightly dry and bitter with a sweet aftertaste. This is a terrific brew that I never pass up! And despite what may have first thought when you read this brews name, it has nothing to do with AC/DC, but its real meaning is just as cool! Go try and Black IPA today! Here’s to Good Beers!
