A Stout’s Stout

I picked up this brew to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Since I AM Irish, I figured I can enjoy a Guinness or Smithwick’s any other day of the year. I wanted to celebrate with something I had not had before. That is when this 1 pt. 6 oz bottle of Green Flash “Stout” Double Stout caught my eye. I knew I was in for a treat as soon as I poured it. It was like motor oil, black and thick. It had a tall sudsy cappuccino head. It had a wonderful dark chocolate aroma with a roasty note to it. It was a very smooth full mouth feel. I immediately tasted dark chocolate malt, roasted coffee, and licorice. There was a slight hoppy bite at the end, and had a pleasant aftertaste. The 8.8% Abv was present throughout but not overpowering. The only thing I was disheartened about is that I only bought one. A Brew-thusiast Instant Fav! Here’s to Good Beers!

I agree, this is an awesome stout! A big, malty brew in contrast to their incredibly hoppy West Coast IPA. I typically find breweries that make great hoppy beers don't do quite as well with the malty ones, and vice-versa. Impressive that Green Flash can brew amazing renditions of both ends of the beer spectrum.

That is a good way of putting it!It is rather impressive how they have gotten both malty and hoppy down pat!
