Anchor “Porter”

A couple weeks ago I mentioned that I often get caught up in trying so many new beers, that I sometimes forget to revisit and enjoy the one’s I especially liked again. Well, I am also guilty of taking certain beers for granted. In my never ending journey to try as many tasty brews as I can, I sometimes overlook beers that I see all the time on the shelves. I get side tracked by seasonal beers, limited beers, and newly released beers. I may be missing out on incredibly tasty brews that have been around for quite a while, just for that reason. I figured these loved beers were not going anywhere, so I would eventually get around to them. What if I am not here tomorrow! Time for me to stop neglecting, and start respecting these beers!
Anchor Brewing’sPorter” is a beer I always see around and just always passed by. I regret this deeply. Anchor “Porter” pours a dark black with a beautiful two finger thick brown, long lasting head. The aroma is very robust with chocolate malt, mild roast coffee and smoke. The taste is just as delightful with caramel, chocolate, coffee, and vanilla notes, with just a touch of earthy must. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied. The finish is dry and roasty with small bitter hop ending. The 5.6% ABV is barely detectable, and lets the chocolate and coffee flavors dominate! This is a most excellent Porter. Anyone looking to become familiar with this delicious style of beer would be doing themselves a favor by starting with this brew! Here’s to Good Beers!
