Banana Bread Beer

This is a beer I kept seeing in my local brew store. The idea was very intriguing; Banana Bread = Good, Beer = Good, Banana Bread + Beer = Good? Only one way to find out! I picked Wells Banana Bread Beer in a 1pt. 0.9oz bottle. I love clever the label, banana peels falling away from a pint of beer. It poured a golden amber with a one finger thick off white head. It appeared to be very carbonated. The aroma was very strong and distinct. I immediately recognized this smell as Banana Laffy Taffy. It did not taste like Laffy Taffy though. The taste started out with a slight hop bitterness and then the banana flavor followed. However, it was faux banana flavor, more like Banana Runts. The kind you would get out of a grocery store quarter machine. There was no lacing along the glass, and as my palate warmed up I did start to pick out some nice malts and cinnamon and clove spices. Although the Banana Candy flavor was always dominating with the 5.2% ABV in the distant background. This was definitely novelty beer that provided a novel experience. I was expecting more of a genuine banana flavor. All in all this was interesting brew and would be a conversational beer shared among friends. I personally don’t think I would go for it again. Try it for yourself, see what you think! Here’s to Good Beers!

I am bummed that you didn't love this beer. It sounds like it would be awesome! I still need to try this, though – I definitely think I would dig it. I am a big fan of banana runts.
