Beer and Zombies

A very good friend of mine is a huge Zombie fan. Occasionally he will host zombie movie marathons. I got the invite for another “Zomba-thon”. However, this event had a new twist. This was a Zomba-thon / Beer tasting. Each guest brings a six pack of beer they have never had before. That way there is enough beer for everyone to be able to sample multiple new brews! The next few reviews I post will be from beers I had the chance to check out at what I am now calling the “Zom-Brew-Thon”!

The Brew that I brought to the Zom-brew-thon was Founders Red’s Rye P.A.. I have had my eye on this beer for a while. I just had not gotten around to it. I like Zombies, IPA’s and Rye so I figured this would be a great time to try it out. Nothing Like a good brew while watching the undead feast on brains! It poured a deep amber color and smelled amazing, full of citrus and pine. It had a half inch white head that disappeared quickly. This beer is loaded with great flavors. Right away it reminded me of a juicy red grapefruit. Wonderfully hoppy and bitter. Then there is a spicy rye quality that i was looking for that aids in the clean, crisp finish. The 6.6% abv was barely noticeable. It was pretty smooth and very drinkable. I had expected a little bit more of the rye flavor, but after a few sips I realized it had just enough of everything. This was an excellently balanced brew! I look forward to enjoying it again soon. Here’s to Good Brains err Beers!

When I take notes to review a beer I find I can't enjoy my surroundings as much because I'm too focused on the beer. Did you run into that at the Zom-Brew-a-thon?"

There Was a bit of that for sure! I missed a lot of the movies and my conversation suffered at times. Good to know I am not the only one who experiences this!
