Evolution Craft Brewing Co. “Rice Rice Baby” Brown Ale

Last week I happened to be in the first state, also known as Delaware. For me, a trip to Delaware is not complete without filling my growler at the Evolution Brewing Co. in Delmar, DE. I walked into the brewery and found their great usuals on tap, along with their spring seasonal. Then it caught my eye, a tap handle with a glossy photo of an early 90’s music icon. Rob Van Winkle, better known as “Vanilla Ice”, dressed in a dated red, white and blue wind breaker. Who doesn’t love a good old skool pop culture reference? I knew right then that this would be the beer I would be taking back to Jersey.
This beer was a brewery exclusive. A Brown Ale made with wild rice from Red Lakes, Minnesota. That being said this beer could not have a more perfect name, “Rice Rice Baby”! It pours a dark brown color with a one finger thick khaki head. The aroma was playfully sweet and nutty with hints of coffee and chocolate. The Taste started out sweet and included a swirl of complimenting flavors such as coffee, molasses, rich toffee and milk chocolate. The mouthfeel was medium and smooth with moderate carbonation. The finish is slightly bitter with a dark chocolate flavor. This beer was incredibly drinkable and never let on to the fact that it had a 6.3% ABV. I know this was a brewery exclusive but I hope that “Rice Rice Baby” makes a return sometime in the near future! “If there was a problem yo I’ll solve it”, Here’s to Good Beers!
