"Hairy Eyeball"

This is a beer that I have had my “Eye” on for a little while now. I came across it in six-pack form. I always enjoy the off the wall names Lagunita’s (LAH-GOO-KNEE-TUSS) busts out for their beers. This “Hairy Eyeball” American Strong Ale is a winter season release from Lagunita’s. It poured a dark reddish amber with a thin off white head. I am not sure what an eyeball smells like hairy or not, but the aroma was sweet and malty with some orange. At first It tasted pretty much like it smelled, malty, like brown sugar and a slight toffee taste. Then I began to get some piney citrus hop bitterness. From begining to end there was a constant heat from the 9% ABV., but I thought that was well controlled. The finish was sweet and almost a bit syrupy. Over all the sweet roast flavor with a bitter kick at the end, followed by a great aftertaste made for a solid brew. Normally When I think of Lagunitas I think that there is going to be some kind of wow factor in the beers. Despite the fact that the “Hairy Eyeball” never wowed me, as far as American Strong Ales go this is probably one of the best I have had. Here’s (“Lookin’ Atcha”) To Good Beers!

I've bought this one on about 5 different occasions now. Can't get enough. I get an earthy, tobacco flavor that really hits the spot. Plus I feel like the bottle is watching me so I better look like I enjoy it.

Glad you liked it too. Great review.

Thanks Billy Broas! This was a solid brew that I think will be in my fridge again in the near future!
