New Holland “Dragon’s Milk”

At some point in life, usually during adolescence everyone (boy or girl) dreams about living in medieval times with dragons! Boys want to slay the dragons, and girls want to be rescued from them! It’s a win-win, unless the dragon eats you! After one slays a dragon some kind of token is claimed from the carcass to show his fellow townsmen his feat of victory! I recently came across something similar on the shelf of my local brew store! It would seem that there are still dragons in Michigan and one of the brewery’s there has captured one!
New Holland Brewing’sDragon’s Milk” is a Strong Ale aged in oak barrels. It pours black as night with a slow forming one finger thick brown head. The aroma brings to mind a decadent dessert with the smells of vanilla, chocolate, coffee, spice and oak. The taste bring flavors of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, salty caramel, rum and oak. The mouthfeel is medium with a warming sensation from the 10% abv. The high gravity of this brew never interferes with the rich flavors or drinkability of this brew. The finish is very smooth. The chocolate and rum flavors play off each other very well. It is easy to see why this is such a loved beer! Here’s to Good Beers!
