Shipyard’s "Smashed Pumpkin"

Continuing deeper down the road known as my obsession with pumpkin beer, I found myself on the hunt again! Since the end of summer I have expressed my feelings for pumpkin beer on the twittersphere. Quite a few of my “Tweeps” responded with their favorite pumpkin brews. Out of all the pumpkin beers mentioned I found one that was available in my area! It took some detective work, visiting just about every brew store in my area, but I found it! I have enjoyed a number of great pumpkin beers this season, so at this point my expectations are pretty lofty! Enough suspense, on to the brew!
The beer suggested to me was Shipyard’s “Smashed Pumpkin (Pugsley’s Signature Series)”. The name alone is just cool, “Smashed Pumpkin”! The packaging is pretty cool as well, with the gold foil top and the pumpkin orange label. It poured a golden amber, with a two finger thick, creamy off-white head. The aroma sweet and malty with a light pumpkin spice, vanilla, and bubble gum. The taste had a moderate rye spiciness, with the flavor of fresh pumpkin puree. It reminded me a little of an Oktoberfest type beer. It had a nice creamy mouthfeel, and the 9% ABV was not overly astringent. No doubt this is a solid example of a pumpkin beer. However, I would have been more satisfied with just a little bit more in the spice department. Even so, I did enjoy this as a pumpkin beer! Here’s to Good Beers!
