Shmaltz Brewing Co.’s HeBrew “Origin”

Over the past few years the pomegranate has become quite popular. This big, awkward, red bulb can be found in a myriad of products and foods. Go to your local grocery store and you’ll easily find pomegranate juice, yogurt, wine, chap-stick, scented candles and so on. What’s so great about this fruit? Aside from being extremely unique and not having a typical fleshy inside, it has long been believed and studied to have disease preventing qualities. So it’s just natural that this ancient fruit would find it’s way into beer! On to the fruit brew!
Shmaltz Brewing Co’s HE’BREW “Origin” Pomegranate Imperial Amber Ale is brewed with real Pomegranate juice. It pours a reddish amber color with a one finger thick white creamy head. The aroma is fruity with sweet malt, caramel, fresh bread, grassy hops, apple and pomegranate. The taste is bready and sweet up front, and then pomegranate flavor becomes very evident, along with piney hops. The mouthfeel is medium with moderate carbonation, and the finish is sweet and fruity. The 8% ABV was controlled and never distracting. This is a very tasty brew. I was a bit dubious about how the pomegranate juice would be in beer, but I thought it was done very well and there was a nice balance to this brew. This beer is definitely worth looking for! Here’s to Good Beers!
