Southern Tier’s "Pumking" is Autumn in a Bottle!

Souther Tier Pumking      In my last post I spoke of a Craft Brewery Night at Isaac Newton’s in Newtown, PA. Before I left that night I filled my growler with a beer I had been waiting for all year! I am totally serious, I have been waiting just about a whole year for Isaac Newton’s to have this beer on tap, and hoped they would at a time when I could make it out to get some! That is the beauty of owning a growler, If you are out at a craft beer bar and find you really like a beer, you can get some to go! I have a 64oz growler, so that is 5.333 beers. Not exactly a six pack but close enough for me! If you don’t have a growler I highly suggest seeking one out, as it is very handy for when you find a great beer you may not find anywhere else for a while!
The brew I had my growler filled with was Southern Tier’sPumking” Imperial Pumpkn Ale. It pours a clear orangy amber that slowly forms a thin white head. The aroma is simply amazing. It smells like pumpkin pie, plain as day with cinnamon, ginger, and vanilla being easiest to identify. Tasting it will only further drive home it’s pumpkin pie glory. All the proper spices are present; cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and ginger. There is a malty sweetness that reminds me of pie crust. That being said, this Pumpkin beer is the complete package if you ask me. As far as pumpkin beers go, it is like someone took a big spoon and dug out the middle of a fresh Pumpkin Pie! This beer encompasses the fall season for me. It reminds me of wearing my favorite hoodie on a crisp cool day, with the crunching of leaves under my feet! This beer is my favorite Pumpkin beer and may be one of my favorite beers period! I have had many, many pumpkin ales. I highly suggest this to anyone who has been let down by pumpkin ales in the past, or to anyone who loves pumpkin beer! Tis the season, so go mix a six of pumpkin brews and find out what your favorite one is, and then let me know! Here’s to Good Beers!

How much did they charge you for a growler of Pumking? Just curious!

  2. Jym says:

Ryan, Considering that a 16.9oz bottle of Pumking cost between $8 and $10 depending on where you go, I expected to pay a little bit for 64oz of my favorite Pumpkin Ale on tap. To answer your question… $32.00. 64oz is 5.333 12oz glasses of brew, so that is $6 per 12oz. It was worth it to me!

  3. Ryan says:

Actually Pumking only comes in 22 oz's, so that is a good deal for the growler. I figured it'd be pricey; I just wanted to know if maybe you got a steal. I've seen that happen before with growlers.

Ryan, You are right. It is 22oz bottles it comes in! But, yes it was a good deal, But I would not call it a steal. Were it a steal I would have left with 2 growlers full! Cheers!
