Stevens Point “Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale”

Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale     Pumpkin ales… It’s that time everyone! I usually try to hold out until after Labor Day. This year the weather toward the end of August became very Autumn-esque! So I began my annual search for tasty pumpkin brews early! At least that is my excuse this year! Here’s one I’ve never had or seen before, and it kinda blew me away a little!
Steven’s PointWhole Hog Pumpkin ale” threw me for a second after I realized the bottle was capped with a twist top, but I regrouped and poured. It pours a burnt orange color with a thin, white disappearing head. The aroma is straight up pumpkin pie! The taste encapsulates pumpkin pie flavors from top to bottom. All of the appropriate cinnamon, allspice, clove and nutmeg spices are accounted for. As well as a light and creamy mouth feel. The finish is malty and slightly buttery. the aftertaste brings on a kind of biscuit flavor, providing for the crust flavor to round out the full pumpkin pie experience. I’ve already picked up a couple 4-packs and plan on getting more! This just may be my favorite pumpkin ale of 2014 so far. Here’s to good beers!
