Trader Joe’s / Unibroue “2010 Vintage Ale”

Every once in a while a deal comes along that you just can not afford to pass on. Back in the summer I did a series of reviews on very tasty and affordable beer from Trader Joe’s. Not only does Trader Joe’s carry craft beer brands like Sierra Nevada, and Goose Island, but you may not know that TJ’s also carries Firestone Walker, Gordon Biersch, and Unibroue. You may not know this because Trader Joe’s puts their own label on these beers. These great beers come in six packs for around $6.00. There is one beer that TJ’s only puts out once a year around the Holidays. This is one I look forward to all year long, and it has a bargain price!
Trader Joe’s “Vintage Ale”. This 750ml cork top bottle is actually brewed by Unibroue from Cambly, Quebec, Canada. The “2010 Vintage Ale” pours black and opaque with a frothy beige head. The aroma is sweet with candied figs, banana, grapes and yeast. The Taste goes a bit deeper with spices, dark fruit, cocoa, orange peel, caramel, and alcohol. The mouthfeel is full and a little oily. The 9% ABV is present but controlled very well. This is a great Belgian Strong Ale and I was able to pick it up or $4.99! This is a beer that I think would easily sell for $10 or $11! This is a deal too good to miss, so if you have a Trader Joe’s nearby, pick up a couple bottles of the “2010 Vintage Ale”! There won’t be another deal like this until next year! Happy New Year and Here’s to Good Beers!
