Wolaver’s “Organic Pumpkin Ale”

In this day in age where people want things to be more “Organic”, it only makes sense that Craft Beer would begin to follow suit. Organic Beer? Oh yes, what better than having peace of mind that the brew you drink is completely natural from hops to malts? That’s right no pesticides, or synthetic anything in this brew making process! Oh, and what if you are adding a special ingredient, say like pumpkin? You got it, organic pumpkins to make my favorite kind of ale! On to the USDA Organic beer!
Otter Creek Brewery in Middlebury, VT has an line of Organic craft beer that they release under the name Wolaver’s Fine Organic Ales. Of course the first brew I tried from Wolaver’s is their “Organic Pumpkin Ale”. It pours a hazy orange with a one finger thick off-white head. The aroma is very strong with pumpkin spice with sweet malt and brown sugar. The taste is sweet and malty upfront, then turns over to pumpkin spices and earthy hops, with a hint of smoke. The mouthfeel is thin with moderate carbonation. The finish is a mix of spicy cloves and grassy hops to balance out the sweetness of this brew. the 5.35%  ABV is barley noticeable making this brew fairly sessionable. As far as pumpkin ales go, The aroma is spot on, and if you like more sweet than pumpkin spice this brew is for you! It’s nice to know the Craft Beer industry is getting on board with making quality organic products! Here’s to Good Beers!
